Ubuntu 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon on Acer Aspire 5020
Hi folks!
This week I updated my system to Gutsy Gibbon. Nice Release.
After Installation Compiz-Fusion was not working, even if I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X600 in my system. Installation of the proprietary driver did not help.
After Installation some small problems occured:
Black boot screen. Do the following:
open as root: /etc/usplash.conf
change to:
xres=1280
yres=800
sudo update-usplash-theme usplash-theme-ubuntu
Get the WLAN working (BCM 43xx)
link: http://code.google.com/p/aceracpi
Load restricted driver module (fwcutter)
Edit /etc/apt/sources.list
add: deb http://www.mumblyworld.info/ubuntu gutsy main
get the repository's key: wget http://www.mumblyworld.info/ubuntu/depot.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
Open Synaptic and install aceracpi
Get the Medibuntu-ressources
(GoogleEarth, Skype)
echo "deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ gutsy free non-free" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update
Install the packages via synaptic.
CUPS - Printing within your home network.
Activate automatic printeradministration: sudo /usr/share/cups/enable_browsing 1
enable local printers: sudo /usr/share/cups/enable_sharing 1

I hope, this helps. Enjoy the new Ubuntu-Release!
